CHECK OUT OUR SPRING INTO SUMMER FRAWSY 2024!! - A WONDERFUL DEVONIAN EVENT!
WELCOME TO THE DEVON VOICE GROUP
So far, we're a group of around sixty people (with a facebook group of around 200) who share a love of the Devonian accent and dialect. We meet weekly to talk about how it has changed; phrases and words that we remember fondly and how we'd like our accent to be represented today. Also for a good old social chit-chat! If hearing the Devonian accent and dialect feels like coming home - then is this definitely for you! |
Simply Devon There’s cider from apples and cream from the cow, With jam from the garden – on top don’t you know! Teddies in pies and junket for tea, Eggs from the hens pecking under the tree. The tea’s on the table, the kettles not cold, So gather around, there’s tales to be told! Tell of brave Sir Francis in his ship, Golden Hind, In Torquay, Agatha Christie, with a keen sleuth’s mind. Josh Widdicombe and Dawn French on TV we see. They come from Dartmoor, the hills and the sea. Hear the rich burr of Devon’s own voice, Hear the quiet, let go of the noise. Balm to mind, peace for the soul, All this and – oi! Leave me some cream in that bowl! Anne Edwardson 2025 |
